In the book you can find more information on the subject.

First the snow falls onto the ice sheet. Then it is pressed together. At last it becomes ice.

Paint a picture of ice crystals freezing together and becoming snowflakes. And fall onto the ice sheet, are pressed together and become ice.

Your picture:

When more and more snow falls on the ice sheet it creates a huge pressure. The snow becomes a compact mass called firn. When the air bubbles are pressed out of the firn, it becomes ice.

Draw a model of the process from snow to ice. Find help  on page 23 in the book.

Your model:

First the snow falls on the ice sheet. Then it is pressed together. Finally it becomes ice.

  • What do these two models (p. 23 in the book) show?
  • When does the snow become the more compact firn?
  • What happens at the edge of the ice sheet?

First the snow falls on the ice sheet. Then it is pressed together. Finally it becomes ice.

  • Write a text for these two pictures (p. 23).

  • What is firn?

  • What makes the ice look white?
